In our education system, although English is the medium of instruction, most of our students do not come from English-speaking homes (Singapore Department of Statistics, Census of Population, 2010) and are thus learning English as a Second Language (ESL). This website aims to help educators address some of the issues faced by ESL students in writing.
Suggestions for teaching academic writing to Singapore ESL students are proposed, and implications in the aspects of approaches to teaching writing, establishing coherence and developing students’vocabulary are discussed.
